Joseph Giunta: Mixed Media Artist

Joseph Giunta (1911 - 2001) was a Canadian Italian Mixed Media Artist whose career spanned over 70 years. Throughout this time his work progressed through 4 major styles:

Giunta began as a figuration artist and moved through different periods and styles until he evolved into a Mixed Media Artist. (A Mixed Media Artist is defined as an artist whose work incorporates different mediums which may also include objects glued on a surface such as a canvas, hardboard, cardboard, etc.)

In the above left mixed media artist's work the entire composition began with an old hat.

Mixed media artist Joseph Giunta used everyday found objects and integrated them into his paintings to make beautiful and unique mixed media paintings.

Giunta's mixed media art include a large variety of items including string, wire, wood, buttons, nails, metal mesh, felt, hats, jewelry, cardboard, shoes, ceramics, cloth, paper, foil wrappers, peanut shells, candies, plaster, drawings, paints, pastels, charcoals, markers and much more.

In the artists mixed media works the function of every object was diverted to the sole benefit of the painting in progress. Giunta's mixed media collages developed through the successive differentiation of their new parts. He departed from one element, added a second which called for a third, the relationship of the first three leading to a forth, and so on.
